GASTRIC BALLOON
Gastric Balloon: What Is It, What Are the Applications and Procedures, Frequently Asked Questions
In this method, a hollow balloon is placed from the mouth to the stomach with an endoscopy device. Then the balloon is inflated. Thanks to the space occupied by the balloon placed in the stomach, patients feel early saturation. However, an important difference from other interventional methods is that the balloon is removed after a certain period of time (6 months - 1 year). During this period, patients lose 10-20% of their excess weight, depending on their body structure.
Who is the Gastric Balloon Suitable for?
It can be performed as a primary procedure in adults aged 18-65 who have a Body Mass Index of 30-40 kg/m2 and have not lost weight as a result of diet and exercise. It is also used as an auxiliary preparation method in the preoperative period in order to reduce the risk of surgery and anesthesia in advanced obese patients. This method is preferred more especially in patients with risk of surgical intervention.
